The quantity of AM fungal mitochondrial LSU gene copies in root systems that were trimmed (trim) or not (non-trim), and from either the old and young roots. An interaction was detected between trimming and root location (p = 0.033). The asterisk indicates a difference in AM fungal mtDNA between the non-trimmed old and trimmed old roots, detected using a Welch Two-Sample t-test (t = 2.97, p = 0.006)
